Ok, here we go. I am reproducing my documentation on the bike since I have owned it. Purchased 11/18/01 @ 52k miles. Presently ~ 57k miles. No previous history known. I would give this bike an 8.5 to 9 on a 1-10 scale. Large (stock) tank with new knee pads. Not a Toaster, don't have a toaster, don't want a toaster. Mobil 1 in drive train since I have had it. 20/50 Castrol in motor. Carb intake hoses replaced. Nice USA handlebars. Old style Magura grips replaced. Shift rubber replaced. Fuel hose replaced and in line filters added as a matter of course. Turn indicator lamp replaced. Spark plugs replaced and added set of NGK wires. H4 head light conversion. Clean and grease starter and replace nose bushing. Brake switch cover replaced. Oil pressure switch replaced. Check compression L=155 R=150. Carb diaphragms replaced. Clean and grease steering head bearings. Clean and grease throttle assy. Clean and grease steering damper. Disassemble and clean forks and ad Progressive springs and new 10w fork oil. Koni rear shocks. Clean and grease rear brake pivot. Install new Mac headers and crossover. Install new Sito cigar/bullet end mufflers. Clean and grease front wheel bearings. Clean and grease front brake backing plate and pivots. Front tire replaced with ME33 Metzler. Rebuild and install later style fuel taps. Professional black repaint and hand pin stripe on body work and sub frame. Clean and grease rear splines, brake pivots and wheel bearings. Restored original seat. Repo police seat is available as well as a Teutonic solo tractor style seat, all seats can be negotiated. Wesco sealed AGM battery. Boyer Brandston electronic ignition installed. Cam seal replaced. Nice white Wixom bags and powder coated mounts with key, these can be negotiated if you don't want them. Also I have a set of Krausers with black mounts if you prefer, all bags and mounts can be negotiated. Chrome Luftmiester? I think, engine protection bars. Clean carbs and replace o-rings. Install used 1976 R90/6 alternator and rotor. (higher amp) Replace rear tire with ME99A Metzler. Replace old style foot peg rubbers. Replace starter and horn switches with new ones. Replace ignition switch plastic cover and spring. Lube tach and speedo cables. Install thunderchild diode board and voltage regulator. National Plexistar II windshield available. Tool kit, tire pump and owners manual. Receipts and documentation of most recent work. I probably have $4.5K + in this this bike. I know it's not worth that much on the market. I really like this bike and am sad to sell it but new bike forces sale. E-mail pictures available for serious interest. If it does not sell pretty soon I will start pulling the bags, shocks, seats, tool kit, and anything else I might be able to sell separately on this site or ebay then I can lower the price on the bike or maybe even keep it. It is a real pleasure to ride, and could be ridden anywhere as it is. It is not in showroom condition, but is very nice for its age and is basically all original. The only mechanical quirk is in the odometer which worked when I bought it, but developed a tendency to flip the 10K digit occasionally. I believe, but can not guarantee that the bike has 24K miles on it, but because of the odometer flaw which developed after I bought the bike it reads 44K. The seat is excellent with a new cover on it and the bike has brand new Hepco-Becker bags and rack, put on last summer. I also rebuilt the starter, solenoid and replaced the starter relay. The bike has a newer Westco sealed battery and is a toaster tank with white pinstriping and with the chrome battery covers intact. Tires are almost new as are mufflers. Bike also comes with a color matched Bates fairing that is an interesting looking period piece that offers good protection, but in my opinion the bike does not look as good with it as without it. Headlamp is upgraded to an H4 halogen. All instrument lights work. Bad digital pictures on request. Some extra parts are included. It was rebuilt by Bill's BMW Service in Seattle over the next couple years. Bill didn't restore it, he got it running as cheaply as he could for me, so it has a lot of not-original parts, some of the most obvious being heads, speedo & guages, front disc brake, and handlebar controls. It has a custom paint job, tank and fenders silver and burgundy, again, not stock but nice. I've put about 6,000 miles on it since the rebuild. I haven't had it out since 2001, at which time it was running nicely. It's dusty, needs polish, probably a battery, and probably the fuel system cleaned out. I believe, but cannot guarantee, that the bike has only about 24,000 miles on it at this time. The speedometer and tach work fine. It had almost new Continentals, exhaust, recent starter and solenoid rebuild by Motorrad Electrik in AL. New Hepco and Becker bags and rack from Bob's last summer. New seat cover. All parts are there, i.e. chrome sidecovers, etc. This bike runs great and is a blast to ride. Halogen headlight and sealed battery. Original toolkit, pump, and manual included. Paint is original and in good, but not perfect, condition. I would consider a trade either slightly up or down for a car with reasonable miles in good condition. I got it from some family friends; they have owned it since spring of 74. Title calls it a 72. Bought from Engle BMW here in KC and it might have been a demo model, he doesn_t remember anymore. I am not much on street bikes, so it has to go. It shows 7800 miles and I got it from the second owner I think. He and his wife are positive the mileage is correct. He rode it infrequently during the summers and stopped riding in 1987 because of a leg injury. I cleaned out the fuel system (replaced the float needles and petcocks), changed the fluids, put a new battery in it and did some cleaning because it had set in his shed since 87. I also had to replace some headlight parts because they were removed to install the fairing and they didn_t know what happened to them. It is a Vetter fairing, side bags and back box on it that I have removed and am going to sell separately unless someone wants them with the bike. The lights (hi/lo), flashers, brake lights, and indicator lights all work. I have run it around the neighbor hood several times and it rides just fine. Probably needs some clutch adjustment (or just the rust knocked off) as it seems to slip for a second or two if you go into second at WOT. I am sure it needs a good tuning; valve adjusted, fork oil replaced, etc as all I did was to make sure it ran. The pipes are solid (no rusted out spots) but they show surface rust. One of the chrome panels on the tank is pitted, and the side panels show some minor pitting, they polish up ok but not show material. Overall it is a great bike. The handlebars also are pitted with rust, they might clean up. And the top of the gas tank shows an old gas stain. It needs tires, as the ones on it are cracked. Email or call with questions. The bike is a good runner. It's been very dependable the six years I've owned it. The general condition is fair cosmetically - it's got scratches here and there, but nothing big and ugly. Mechanically, I think it needs some valve adjustment, maybe valve guides (some smoke on startup if it has sat for a while), a new rear tire, and swingarm bearings. Here's the good news: I have the bearings as well as a ton of new parts for the bike. I planned to do the work, but I have to realize that I probably won't get around to it, so here is somebody's fall project. I have in boxes new bearings, brake shoes, cables, handlebars, and other miscellany that goes with the bike. I also will give buyer a couple of manuals. The 71' has been converted to a long wheel base and has a 73' sub frame(probably a 73' swing arm). The bike has a new battery, new (never riden) Metzeler's, new brake shoes, new bars, new cables, new air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter. The forks have just been rebuilt with new (heavy) springs. There are 55,XXX miles on the clock. It currently does not run due to an electrical problem i have yet to fix (bike does have spark when kicked)(the bike ran when I first bought it three months ago). I have a salvage title for the bike and it is registered until 4-04. I also have an extra head light bucket in good shape. The 72' motor and frame do not have matching vin#'s. The motor is in great shape and turns freely. The frame is in good shape, as are the sube frame , swing arm, and drive shaft. I have a paper trail to aid in geting a title for the frame.
