How to pull the tapered bearing races out of steering heads of a BMW motorcycle. Matra had no solution, but a tool was found that did the job very well.
That is a wonderful tool and every BMW mechanic should have it. However, never use it as suggested to remove a wheel bearing from a hub. You probably will damage the hub of wheels before 1984.
Notice that there is no date on the bulletin. It is signed by Gene Shirley, my former partner at Butler & Smith. He knew better than to suggest using it on wheels between 1970 and 84. In 84 BMW finally had the bore lined with a steel sleeve. It only took them 13 years and thousands of ruined wheels to fix it.
