Not to rain on anyone's parade, but mirrors for mid and late eighties
Yamahas will fit a /5, without adapters. These mirrors are readily
available in a variety of shapes and stem lengths. Most importantly, the
left-side mirror mounts with left-hand threads.

I ended up buying headlight mounted Albert mirrors from Vech at Bench
Mark Works, and they're really nice. I wanted to keep everything as low
and narrow as possible. I did add a ny-lock nut inside the headlight shell
to avoid overstressing the existing threads when tightening the mirrors
down.
