This was the introduction of the telescopic forks. The models became known with the suffix US. BMW was using the /2 as a test bed for the upcoming /5 series. The fork angle wasn’t correct for this fork. The forks weren’t produced with parts that allowed for proper alignment. The result was high-speed wobbles in many bikes. I was the “expert witness” in one lawsuit against BMW resulting in the death of the rider. BMW ended up settling the case.
