This floating damper modification is to greatly reduce stiction in the “US” models as well as the /5 series in 1970-71. The last two years of /2 production, 1968-69, offered a new telescopic fork. It was fraught with many issues. Those forks also need this modification. All of these models required fork alignment in order to work correctly.
