I was a BMW dealer in San Rafael, CA. at the time that these were being sold.  It was named BMW of Marin.  The dealership became a franchised dealership in mid-1971, so 1972 was the first full year of operation.  At the dealer meeting late in 72, we were awarded the “Model Dealership Award.”  It was the first time ever and the last for that award.

Since that award was unknown among the 225 dealers, it was a mystery to everyone.  It was only in 2015 that I learned the story of how it happened.
