This road test is by Cycle Guide in July 1972. This was the first year that BMW offered colors besides the usual white and black. This was also the first year that BMW came out with a small tank. Many people blasted the tanks on the 70-71 models. When this small tank came out with chrome panels, people hated this one even more than the previous large tank. The public nicknamed this model the “toaster” because the tank panels looked like something from a (cheap) bread toaster.
